Charlie Patton is a legendary prank call victim of the Madhouse show. He is a hypochondriac, possibly a sufferer of Munchausen syndrome. Accroding to Lewts Medical Journal, this defines a "psychiatric disorder in which those affected fake disease, illness, or psychological trauma in order to draw attention or sympathy to themselves." For almost 10 years he has been claiming to be afflicted with numerous terminal illnesses and also has been scheduled for a battery of surgeries which have never panned out. His details were submitted by an anonymous Madhouse listener in 2006.
Patton & McDoogan
In 2006 Patton was pranked by character Fr. McDoogan (still utilizing the now obsolete name Ft. McQuarters). In the call, titled Charlie's Phone in the Tub, Patton claimed to be suffering from some form of cancer and had only a handful of months left. Carlito, playing the part of the priest, instructed Charlie to follow him in prayer. Afterwards Patton filled his bathtub with water, blessed the water to make it holy and then, upon Carlito's instructions, dropped his cordless phone into the tub. The phone made a quick screeching noise with static remaining until the line died. After calling back, Patton reported the phone was ruined but that he was feeling better already.
The next week Fr. McDoogan called Patton once again who admitted that he believed the bathtub holy water blessing was a mistake. The good father led Charlie in prayer again asking him to walk outside, pull down his pants, and proclaim "take me home Jesus". Patton disconnected the call after realizing the ludicrousness of this.
Patton changed his phone number afterwards, however his new number was located and called - although Patton has since either been unwilling or unable to answer. According to anonymous tips Patton is still very much alive and now married to a woman several years younger than him. His new wife has appeared on the air sternly refusing to put her husband on the phone again.
